What is BMI?

BMI or "Body Mass Index" is a reliable indicator of healthy body weight based on your height and weight.
It tells you whether your body weight is appropriate for your height and whether you need to maintain, lose or gain weight.
It provides a helpful guideline for understanding your weight status, thus screening for weight categories which might pose a risk of health problems.
The normal BMI range is not applicable to pregnant and breast feeding mothers or individuals who have high muscle mass (e.g., athletes and body builders).
